We are always on the lookout for new and upcoming talents who can help us drive tech development by contributing with new and fresh insights that might just turn into great business opportunities. Does this sound like you? Then make sure to submit your application now to become our next Tech Student of the Year.
To apply, you need to have studied for 2 – 4 years at a university or college in Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia or Estonia, and have basic programming skills.
So if you are a driven and committed student with an interest in these topics and you have inspired development and new insights during your studies, or you know someone who has – then it is time to apply or nominate! The last day to apply is January 15th, 2023.
The award winner will get the chance to participate in an 8-week Summer Internship at SEB, based either in Sweden or the Baltics (depending on your place of residency). The winner will also be offered the chance to receive mentoring from different Tech departments at SEB for one whole year, ensuring the best possible start for a career in tech.
In addition to the above, the winner will also be invited to exciting and inspiring events during the year and have the opportunity to contribute new insights and business opportunities for SEB. In addition, the winner will be promoted as a role model and ambassador for tech-interested young people throughout Sweden and the Baltics!
Last year Celine Helgesson Hallström was crowned as the Tech Student of the Year 2022, after having impressed the judges with her passion for machine learning and her take on how it can be applied to different areas of sustainability work. Now having completed the internship, she describes her experience as the Tech Student of the Year:
“It’s been eight fantastic weeks. I especially appreciate the possibility to engage with so many different teams, in two different countries. The fact that I was able to decide for myself which areas and tasks I wanted to explore also appealed to me. I got to do a few interesting smaller tasks, in addition to one bigger, main assignment”, Celine says.

During February 13-17 , 8 semi-finalists will be welcomed to a digital case week at SEB and with support from SEB experts work individually on a case on the theme Machine Learning and Sustainability. The finalists will also participate in a mini Google Cloud Day on February 10th and get preparation material. During the first day of the case week, you will receive more in-depth information about the assignment and hands-on support to get started. You will have the possibility to work on the case until Thursday that week, and on Friday you will present your proposal to a jury. During the case week, you will also get the possibility to listen to inspirational speakers, have networking sessions, and much more. Of the 8 semi-finalists, three finalists will have the chance to take part in the Universum award ceremony in March when the winner will be announced.
The jury includes professor Danica Kragic from KTH, Joakim Jerbrant, Chief Architect at Google Cloud, Petra Ålund, head of Technology, and other representatives from SEB.
