What if your first job gave you front-row access to embassies, government leaders and the full force of Swedish industry? That’s how Christopher Lehmann’s journey with Business Sweden began. 7 years, 5 countries and countless cross-border projects later, he’s still growing – and choosing Business Sweden over riskier options.
Christopher Lehmann, Market Manager at Business Sweden, has a career shaped by diplomacy, strategy, and global business. His story shows what’s possible when you stay curious, take initiative and say yes to the unexpected.
“I was drawn to Business Sweden because of the breadth of opportunity. We work in this unique space between business and diplomacy – close to the business industry, the embassies, even the royal family. That kind of exposure, especially early in your career, is rare and valuable,” he says.
Christopher Lehmann’s first major assignment was supporting Sweden’s role as partner country at Hannover Messe in 2018 – one of the world’s largest trade fairs. With over 130 Swedish companies involved and then-Prime Minister Stefan Löfven in attendance, it was a high-profile project that taught him stakeholder management at warp speed.
“It was intense but energising,” he recalls. “I was trusted with real responsibility from day one.
From there, Christopher Lehmann’s journey continued across Singapore, Sydney, and San Francisco – shifting from government-led events to private consulting and M&A projects. Along the way, he helped expand Business Sweden’s advisory capabilities and built experience in fast-changing markets.

Title: Marketing Manager, Mumbai, India.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Södertörn University, Sweden, Master’s degree in Accounting from Stockholm University, Sweden.
In volatile markets, Business Sweden offers a level of resilience that startups or listed companies can’t always guarantee.
“The backing of the Swedish state and our close ties to industry give us a mandate – and a responsibility – to act long-term,” Christopher Lehmann says.
Every stop on his journey taught him something new and he has learned that success isn’t one-size-fits-all. Berlin offered structure. Singapore brought speed. Sydney gave him leadership autonomy. San Francisco sharpened his strategy skills. Now in Mumbai, he’s putting it all to work – opening a new office, mentoring a new team and supporting Swedish companies in one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.
“What works in Germany won’t work in India. You need to listen, stay humble, and be willing to adjust. Cultural fluency and relationship-building matter just as much as strategy.”
The ability to operate between business and diplomacy, public and private – and to deliver progress by trade – is what sets Business Sweden apart, he says.
“I’ve always had the freedom to shape my role. If you’re proactive, the organisation trusts you. You can lead early, move across markets and pursue ideas you believe in.”
“You’re always navigating complexity. But that’s also where you can make the biggest impact.”
“The freedom to explore, impact and people. I’ve never felt boxed in. There’s always been room to grow, explore new markets and work with smart, purpose-driven colleagues. I’ve always had the space to shape my role, follow my curiosity, and keep learning. Plus, the people here are sharp, kind, and genuinely driven.”
Now, he’s focused on mentoring the next generation.
“Business Sweden is a place where people grow fast – and I want to support that”, says Christopher Lehmann.

“India, hands down. I’m still adjusting to crossing the street in Mumbai! But it’s exciting to be in such a dynamic market and build something from the ground up.”
